Our Engagement Photos and We Eloped?!

At the beginning of September, Gary and I headed up to Lake Minnewanka with my friend Erika to take our engagement photos. I met Erika when I worked in Red Lobster and knewΒ I wanted her to take our photos at some stage – our engagement was the perfect time!

The day we decided to go up was pretty gloomy – not a break in the clouds in sight, but we made it work! Erika was such an amazing photographer to work with – giving us direction but also letting us be goofy and ourselves too!Β Lake Minnewanka is the most perfect setting for engagement photos. The huge mountains and crystal clear lake make for some breathtaking shots!

Since these photos were taken a lot has changed. Gary and I decided that we didn’t want to wait and on October 16, 2016 my best friend also became my husband in a small ceremony in Calgary city.

At first I wasn’t sure if that’s what I wanted to, but then I realised that marriage isn’t about the glitz and glam – it’s about joining together with your best friend and committing to each other for the rest of your life. We’re planning a celebration with our friends and family in Ireland in May next year (my parents would kill me if I said we wouldn’t celebrate with them at all!), but until then, we’re keeping our marriage ceremony as a private memory in our hearts.

Oh and, newsflash – nothing changes once you’re married!
